Hey Soul Sisters,

I'm back on the blog today with my take on the March Mood Board below.

I start off in my art journal by using some Transparent Gel Medium through a Tim Holtz Layered String Stencil  then picking up a few colours from the mood board, I paint them over in sections over the top of the medium. I used Dylusions Paint Periwinkle Blue, Dylusions Paint Vanilla Custard and for some texture Finnabair Patina Rust Effect Paste Mint green

As I was working through my process I had intended to keep this page in line with a more beachy feel as it looks onthe mood board however it kind of took another direction, possibly due how I was feeling after a traumatic event I had experienced at the end of last week.

To build up the texture I've included a number of mediums. First I added some 7 Dot Studio Dreamscapes - Cloudy Paper. Then I have added some of Dina Wakley's Collage Words and used some of the Dina Wakley Scribble Sticks to add some more definition and colours

To build up even more texture I have cut out faces and circles from the Jane Davenport Mixed Media Collage Napkins, these are great to create colour and interest and once you put your gel medium over the top thaey seem to melt into the page.  I've also added some arrows from the 7Dots Dreamscapes collection Die cut and used some opaque texture paste through the 7Dots Dreamscapes Geometry Stencil

I had an old silver metallic pen which I've used to create a few interesting elements in the background then used some black paint in my Fineline container to write the quote.

To finish off I 've used Dylusions Melted chocolate Spray to add some drips and drops.

And this how the finished piece ended up. Nothing like I had in mind when I started the page but I really like how it turned out. I can reflect on how I was feeling while I created it.

Creating with Imagination by Jane McNally

I wish to share with you my latest creations and how easy it is to use your imagination and make your own Faux Succulents that look so real. But no need to water.

Succulents/Cacti are becoming popular as inside gardens or outside. (lol I was given one for Christmas and unfortunately, I have a black thumb).

Inspired by the plastic ones you buy in Kmart and Spotlight, I played with many materials such as cardstock Kaisercraft Olive Green, Lime & fern. (any cardstock or thick Design paper can create beautiful Flowers. Crepe Paper, Design Paper 49 Market  from Art & Soul.

You will need

 white ink Pad 

Archival Ink pad

Sponge Dauber x 3

3D Dot Tape

Paper Towel

(Don’t use glue as it becomes very messy).

Pinking Shears

Mix Media Paper

Dylusional Ink Spray.

Green Tone Cardstock or Heavy Design Collection paper to make realistic Cactus/ Succulents

Awesome Dylusional Ink Spray with mix media paper water and papertowel creates beautiful paper with texture and tones of greens Fresh Lime Cut Grass Chopped Pesto. Spray mist onto a wet sprayed Rangers Mx Media paper mixing the greens then with a roll paper towel Roll over the top to give different texture look and effect. I was taught this Technique from Dylan,   Dylusional Paints & Sprays.

Stem Cacti 

 Using 3 strips of cardstock 5 x 3 inch  score in middle of each, 1 side add scoring tape 2 side then cut with pinking shears or fancy sissors ink with Archival Ink, Stazon Cactus Ink Pad.

                                Sizzix also have other succulent dies, but first check your flower dies for shape. 

To create a Barrel Cacti cut 10 large circles, I have used a Punch Circle.  fold in middle of each

Start gluing on one side to create a book fold.

once dry cut with pinking shears to create a Barrel cactus. I have inked my edges and then used white ink to highlight the spikes or use your Succulent die and create as per picture below.

Sparkle and Shine - Scrapbook/ Card Challenge - Allara Bamforth

Good Morning!

There is a fabulous mood board this month for the Scrapbooking/ Card Challenge called Sparkle and Shine add Tags and Chipboard.

I started off thinking I would possibly make a set of cards but after starting them and not really feeling where I was going with them - the cards turned into a page. Here is my process.

Firstly I pulled out some of my favourite colors Dylusions Paint Postbox Red, Tangerine Dream and Vanilla Custard, Dylusions Sprays Postbox Red, Squeezed Orange and Pure Sunshine and Distress Oxide Inks Candied Apple, Spiced Marmalade and Fossilized Amber. I pulled out some tags and prepared each tag with paint, spray and oxide ink by spraying or smearing the products on my surface and spritzing with water and dragging my tag through. The picture shows the difference in intensity of colours depending on the product.

Next I pulled out some Dylusions White Linen to background stamp some prepared black cards with 49 and Market Gabi's Patterned Texture Stamp.

I then stamped my gorgeous Carabelle - Oh la la stamp and embossed with Ranger embossing powders. The background of my stamps need some more interest so I stamped again with Gabi's Texture Stamp in corresponding colours, added some gold sparkle washi tape and a wing die cut.

This was a far as I got with the cards. I really was wowed by the intesity of the card with the Dylusions paint on the left and thought that I could used this as a centre piece for a layout as well. So recreating the swipe technique I used with the tags - I smeared the paint on my surface spritzed with water and dragged my black card stock through.

I loved the effect of some really intense sections and some washed out sections. Happy with this I used the Dylusions Vanilla Custard to splatter over the top.

Next I pulled out a packet of Vicki Boutin Diecuts and picked a picture from my dear friend Cherie's 40th Birthday and started laying out my design. I also decided to use the tag from the cards on my layout.

The page was coming together and I finished it off with some background stamping with Dylusions White linen paint watered down with Carabelle Background and Gabi's Texture stamp, used some Dylusions Squeezed Orange Spray to tone down the die cuts and finally added some left over Dusty Attic Fishnet chipboard, some stash flowers and Vicki Boutin Glitter. 

I really like how it turned out and whilst I started off with another idea - I allowed the creative process to take its own path and I think that's the beauty of going with the flow.

Hello Soul Sister

Todays project is part of the soulful project which I'm really excited about! I love inspiring quotes. 

Firstly I used Ink sprays such as Dylusions and Marabu.

I then added some red acrylic as I wanted to add a deeper colour, I sprayed some water to spread it a bit easier over the paper.

 I  Then used some tissue to take away some of the paint to give it a grungy look.

I then added some Artisan Powder (Marquise Blue) which gave it a bright powdery blue. I wanted to spread it around so I went over the blue with a small amount of gesso.

I wanted to darken the corner further so I added some small amounts of dark blue acrylic paint.

Once it was dry I used a white gel pen to create a whimsical lady/angel/fairy or if you wanted you can create any image you want. 

To add texture I used the Jane Davenport acrylic paint and the JD stencil provided with the paint.

And finally I used different Tombow dual pens to add the quote. Creating text is not my strong point which is why I used pre-made text but I like the faded look of the Tombows have produced.
