Alcohol Inks on Yupo Paper..... by Cindy Porter

Hi everyone, Cindy here with you today to share my latest piece for Art and Soul Studio, an alcohol ink painting on Yupo which I have called "Cactus Sunset"

I have been wanting to have another play with alcohol inks on Yupo paper since I had so much fun doing the Autumn Stream piece in June... For those that aren't aware Yupo paper is plastic paper and is great for not only alcohol inks but also for watercolours and professional printing too...
It was fabulous to paint on with the alcohol inks and if you have the opportunity I would definitely say have a go at it... you can't ruin it using alcohol inks... cause you can just use Isopropyl alcohol and clean it all off and start again!!! Even if remains stained it's still useable... As you will see in the video below, I begin with a previously experimented on piece of Yupo...

I have made a time lapse video of my process for you all... so grab a cuppa and enjoy...

here's a couple of close ups...

Product List:

Alcohol Ink Blending Solution

hope you enjoyed seeing my process,
till next time
Happy Creating,

Angels in my heart - by Karen Arribas

This is my final lesson for 2017! So I thought I'd doing something festive, however you can do this for any season.

First of all I got a piece of card from a grocery box I had lying around and drew out a heart. I did a big heart and a small heart and then cut them out.

Then I covered them in white gesso.

I have some angel cards that have all these great angelic images so I scanned and printed an image I liked. You can use any image that inspires you but I thought this went well with the festive season. I then used Jane davenport acrylic paint for the base and the Kaisercolour acrylic paint Tropical Water. They can both be purchased on the online shop here: https://artandsoulstudio.com.au/

I then worked into the image to add highlight and contrast to make it stand out more. I Used the Jane Davenport white paint over pen for highlights and various coloured pencils to enhance the colours in the image. I then went over to darken the outline using Tombows mainly dark brown (969)

I had added some elements such as a stick on violin, harp and a smaller heart with the hope message. I got these stickers from a local craft shop. I also used the paint over pen to add little dots around the halos.

I then painted over the larger heart with red acrylic paint.

I then covered parts of it in Stamperia rice paper (gorgeous paper that has a translucent look to it)

For the wings I added Golden Molding paste to give it a 3D effect. Make sure its completely dry before painting on it.

Once dry I attached the wing to the larger heart.

I then attached the smaller heart to the larger heart and added little details such as the scalloped edging.

Once dry I used a bronze spray and Art Alchemy Acrylic Paint - Opal Magic Rose- Gold to cover the wings. I smudged it with a black ink pad (you can use and ink pad) to make it stand out more.

For the top I used Graphic 45 -Seasons Collage paper and glued it onto some card and then attached it to the heart. I used mine to stick on the top of my Christmas tree but of course you could hang yours wherever you like.

Most of the products I mentioned here can be purchased from the Art and soul online art shop: https://artandsoulstudio.com.au/

I hope you enjoyed the final lesson for 2017 from me. Happy holidays! keep creating and see you soon.

Having Fun with Yupo

Hello Soul Sisters

For a little while now I have wanted to play with yupo, which is a synthetic paper, mostly used with alcohol ink. Well I decided to do something different.

I used yupo with my ecoline liquid watercolours. I had a lot of fun playing, I could have kept going but I did make myself stop.

Here is what I created with my playing but I will share my process as well.

The process is really, really easy and its so unpredictable.

I used the 5in x 7in pad. Comes with 10 sheets and I know that I could have easily used all ten but only used 4.

Step 1: Using a soft brush and clean water add as little or a lot to the paper. I covered my yupo all over and then added my liquid watercolour with big fluffy brushes.

Sorry about the quality of the photo the camera didn't want to focus on the image. How cool would it have been if the design stayed like this

Step 2: Keep adding water and colour until you are happy then start drying your creation. You will notices when you start drying the colours will fade in places but they stay true colours.
If you want to add more colour or water during the drying process do so, it will add another layer to your finished piece.

Here are some close ups of what happened after I finished drying my four pieces.

Just a word of caution: the darkest parts of the purple have not actually completely dried, they are sticky. I am trying to think of what I can use to take the stickiness away. It doesn't matter how many times I dry it then returns to being sticky.

The colours I used are 201, 318, 311, 545, 548 and 579.

Happy Creating
