Hi everyone, it's Cindy back with you today to share my latest layout with you "Love this Kid"

This layout is my take on the January/February Soul Sisters Scrapbooking and Cardmaking Challenge....  now this is a challenge worth having a go at... your chance to win a $50 voucher from Art and Soul Studio, seriously who wouldn't want to be in that!!

So here is the Mood Board for the challenge....

So it has my fav colour to work with orange... but I don't usually use it in such a warm combination as this.... and then there's the "sparkle and shine" oh great... glitter, I guess I'll be wearing that for the next week at least...  The Chipboard and Tags, makes me smile... love love love chipboard, so that's easy for me and tags are so versatile, so no stress there... ok... so lets get to it.... here is my process video and if you scroll down after the video I have include a bonus video for you too!!!  Enjoy!

Hello Soul Sisters

Welcome to our new look blog, its so colourful that it just makes me want to create.

I am sharing with you today an art journal page that I create during the week.

 

Here is how I created it.

My first step as most of you know I cover 95% of my pages with a layer of white gesso, sometimes it can be thick with lots of texture or other times its just a layer to stop the mediums soaking into the raw paper.
The layer on this piece of watercolour paper is applied with a palette knife with not much texture

My next step was to decide which stencil I was going to use to apply texture to my page. I didn't cover all my surface with the stencil design as I did want a contrast between the two.

My next step was to add colour. Before I added the colour to my page I sprayed it with a decent amount of water so that once I added the coloured sprays they would move around the texture paste without any effort. I made sure that I kept some white space although its not completely white it does have a small amount of colour.

Here is a close up of the shine that was created.

My next step was to add some stamping, I did this with two different stamps. I reinked between each stamp of the images, but I always stamped on a scrap piece of paper first so that the ink was not too dark. I heat dried the ink and then I wanted to reactivate the sprays just a little so I sprayed water from a distance and then quickly dried with my heat gun, this gave the background some more texture.

The last step of my art journal page was to emboss and heat set my piece of chipboard then attach it to the surface with some matte medium.

Out Of The Darkness

Today I am bringing you a step by step of an art journal page that I created.

 

 

The first thing that I do 95% of the time when I am creating an art journal page is cover it in gesso.

To create my background I cut a piece of rice paper that was a bit bigger than my journal page and then I went crazy with my stamping. I didn't actually mean to go this crazy but I was having to much fun too stop. Once I had finished stamping using matte medium I adhered the rice paper to my journal page, as I was laying down my paper I wanted to created texture so I scrunched as I went. 

Some how I needed to tone down that stamping so using my palette knife and gesso I covered some of it. I made sure that I turned my journal page so that the gesso was coming from all four directions.

My next step was to dissolve the walnut ink crystals until I had a liquid. To add colour I did it in a couple of stages. The first was to use a big watercolour brush to just cover the whole surface with the liquid ink. Making sure that I kept drying in between layers. The ink is not waterproof or permanent so I had to make sure that I wasn't taking off more that I was putting on.

 

The second step was to use my palette knife to apply the ink to the top of my page and letting the ink run down over the texture. Again making sure that I dried and reapplied until I was happy.



I wanted to add something to the background to bring that texture further to the surface so I found in my stash a metallic gold rub.

 

The last step to complete my journal page was to add my heart that I coloured with my pitt pen and added my quote.
