In My Heart-A mixed media layout

Hi everyone
I want to share with you a layout that I have made for Art and Soul studio's February mood board challenge.

This month's mood board is so beautiful and feminine. I hope you will take part in this month's mood board challenge.

Join Art and Soul studio's Soul sisters Facebook group for monthly challenges and chance to win cool prizes.

Let's start our project:

I primed a 12 x12 inches stretched canvas with white gesso. Applied white modeling paste through a stencil.

After drying the modeling paste, I applied Lindy Stamp Gang magicals and activated them with water.

While the magicals were drying, I fussy cut alot of flowers and leaves from scrapbook paper.
Next I glued the flowers and other embellishments around my focal image.
I finished the layout by adding a bit of background stamping, glitter and art stones.

That's all for now
I hope you liked this layout.

Thank you for visiting
Take care and keep crafting.

How Fragile - Kristy Abela - Abela Artistry

This one is quite personal to me.. We all have so many happy stories we post about but this one is about a difficult time. Recently my back pain was diagnosed as a more serious matter than the arthritis I had been learning to live with. I had been feeling low after so many nights of waking up in pain it was taking a toll on our relationship. So for those of us that live with pain - I know you get it..

This piece is a reflection on our relationship and has some personal totems in it that relate to us... It also looks pretty!
I am showing you a bit of my heart and soul today.
Hope you enjoy! xx Kristy

In this project I pulled out a journal page from my book and stamped with my Visible Image stamps - How Fragile. I then sprayed my two favourite Lindy's sprays on the page Moon Shadow Mist Malachite and Starburst Shabby Turbine Teal. I grabbed my TCW Stencil Mini Geometric and used some of the shapes on there to create some texture with Modelling paste.

I applied some Tissue wrap and washi tape from Tim Holtz to create a base for my focal point.. I included my totems here.. The music, #27 and a reminder that our goal is to me happy together.. I grabbed my Distress crayon in Black soot and rubbed it onto my finger and highlighted the texture on the page. also adding to the vintage look.

Once I was happy with my highlighting I used my TCW Stencil in Chicken Wire to do what I call the caging effect...

Once I was happy with that I let it dry and added some highlights. I used my Barn Door Distress spray to add some highlights to the shattered glass.. Symbolism for the pain that we had gone through recently and the fragility of a relationship represented by the glass. I also used a stamp that was a cobbled wall to accent the layout to also represent that the strength of a wall is not always represented by the shape of the stones that build it...

Here are my dragonflies.. another totem, like butterflies but strong! I stamped them with another Visible Image stamp - Dragonflies with my  Tim Holtz stamp press in Staz on - Brown. I used my water brush to wet down the wings and sprinkled onto it some mica powder in an emerald green colour. I love the way you never quite know what you are going to get with them and used minimal blending to take advantage of the effect. I used my Art C Shimmer pen to add some sparkle to the wings. I used some nylon thread to tangle the Dragonflies in as that's how I feel about my husband, we are intertwined.

Now it was time to create the title. I kept it simple and the quote was enough. I stamped the quote from the How Fragile stamp and puddled a good squirt of Moon Shadow Malachite onto my craft mat and dipped the card into it and dried it. It was too light so I kept reapplying and drying in between to get that amazing puddle effect. With my water brush I applied a watered down coat of Barn Door and then a smudge of Shabby turbine Teal. I didn't want the red to overshadow the How Fragile accent.

Steampunk Tags with Kristy Abela

Happy Sunday Funday!! Have a peek at this over your morning cuppa!
Today I get to follow on from my Industrial Steampunk styled Mood Board Challenge to play with the same theme on an set of tags I created.

After sticking down the Stamperia papers to the tags and adding some mesh (Gyprock tape) with 3D gel,  I used a stencil and sprayed a fairly heavy coat of Tim Holtz Resist spray. Once this dried I used Distress Oxide in Evergreen Bough and applied a heavy layer over the whole surface to pick up the exposed bits of paper that the resist spray didn't reach. With a dry cloth I polished off the excess.

I added the super funky Architextures and a layer of Nuvo Mousse through a stencil. I applied some Distress Crayon with my finger and rubbed it all over the raised surfaces to create shadows. Then inked the edges to finish off my background.

I used Embossing powder and waxes over black gesso on my chipboard and veneers. Tore a piece of calico and distressed it to frame my globes. I added in the door knobs and keyhole embellishments. Stamped some inspirational quotes and finished off with some Art Stones and Micro Beads from Prima.

Thanks for joining me at Art & Soul

Shine Bright May Challenge with Lisa Amiet

Hello all!
It's Lisa here today to share with you.

This month we have a gorgeous moodboard for you to play with

And this is my take on the challenge....

I went with a grungy style layout using the 7 Dots Studio Hazy Days collection.
It had the right elements I was after.

I have done some stencilling and stamping on my base
before happily splashing away with some mists and sprays :)

I really wanted my alphas to 'shine' (haha) and be bold and bright on my layout.
I found these older thinkers I had in my stash and some small typewriter letters for my title.

I have inked and distressed all my papers and elements.

Lots of cardboard for added dimension and to help build up my layers.

I hope you like what I have come up with. I can't wait to see your entry!

Until next time

Lisa

Supplies Used:
Other: Thickers - Sketchbook Aqua, Tim Holtz Idea-ology Label Letters, Word Stickers and Black Thread from my stash :)
