Beach Sunset..... by Cindy Porter

Hi everyone, Cindy here to share with you my latest Art Journal Spread for Art and Soul Studio.... Beach Sunset

I created this journal spread using Neocolor II and Marabu Art Crayons, the two crayons are quite different in texture when used however both are water soluble crayons...

Normally, I would have a process video to share with you all... however, I have been away to rest and give my ankle (that I fractured) time to fully repair.... so I have a photo step by step for you...
This journal double page spread, was inspired by the sunsets from where I was staying..

I began by painting my journal pages with water to dampen them down...

I then added white Neocolor in a half circle and surrounded that with Yellow Neocolor…

 Next I surrounded the Yellow with Orange Neocolor…

 I used a brush against the Vermillion Neocolor and brushed a thin colour above the Orange and Yellow...

 For the sky I began with Grey Neocolor washed over the double page...

I then used Periwinkle Blue to create colour contrast...

 To add colour depth to my sky I added Silver Marabu Art Crayon... 

 and then the Lavender Marabu Art Crayon...

 I added a wash of black to darken the sky...

I then used the Black Marabu Art Crayon to roughly draw in the tree horizon...

 to increase the orange glow to my sunset skyline, I added Orange Marabu Art Crayon...

to begin my foreground, I used a wash of the Cocoa Marabu Art Crayon...

I used the White, Yellow and Orange Neocolors to create the sunlight reflection on the water...

 Next I used the Orange and Cocoa to deepen the water colour...

 and a wet brush to create water movement...

 I used the Gold Marabu Art crayon to give a glow to the sunlight reflection...

Next I added more depth to the water and reflection with both the Orange and Cocoa Marabu Art Crayons...

 For the final step I added some extra details to the tree horizon line...

June Challenge by Tanyalee Kahler

Hi everyone, Tanyalee here with my take on the Soul Sisters June Challenge.

I created an art journal page using loads of texture, lime and jade green, and my own handwriting.

I started off with a layer of gesso to seal the page. Then I added some ephemera pieces and collaged then to the spread. The colours matched the mood board really well, as did the impasto paints from Finnabair that I used to blend into the background.

Next, I added texture paste through a few different stencils - some I added paint too, and some I used snowflake paste and patina paste for even more texture.

Once the texture layers were dry and finished I added marks with Neocolour II water-soluble crayons and some of my trademark ink splatter. Before finishing the spread with the quote written in my faux calligraphy handwriting.

I love the bright colourful spread and think this colour scheme is fast becoming a new favourite of mine.

October Soulful Project challenge - Karen Arribas

Hello and welcome to today's project which is this months soulful quote.

I decided to use my Jane davenport journal 6 x 9 in (15.2 x 22.9 cm) because I like the paper and the size. When I'm faced with a blank page I like to put some marks on to add texture and its easier to get started if you're not faced with a blank page.
I Used Jane davenport set 2 turquoise and bubble wrap for the texture.

I like to use washi tape for the middle so the paint doesn't leak into the next page but I also like to use it to add texture. I am using Tim Holtz ideology design tape. I then covered the page with Liquitex gesso.

I decided to draw a face showing the frontal to show the emotion of the mind chatter that could be going through her mind. I used a pencil for the outline and then added colour using Neocolor II watersoluable Caran Dache crayons.  

I lightly filled her face and hair with the crayons and then used a black stabilo water soluable pencil to add depth and outline around the face and eyes.

To make the wall I ripped out another page from the journal and used Kaisercolour acrylic paint - Raw Umber as the base colour. On the bottom I used Decoart Media Fluid Acrylics - Transparent Red Iron Oxide, before ot dried I used bubble wrap to take away some of the colour.

To add more texture I used the Kaisercraft clear stamp - Script and an archival black pigment ink.

For the wall I used the Jane Davenport Inkcredible pen, the ink is actually water soluble so I lightly brushed over the line with a little water to soften the edges a bit. 

I cut out the wall and stuck it on top. The wall has been filled with negative words which are some of the things people say to themselves that can create a wall around them
