Set of Mixed Media ATCs by Dutt Preety

First of all, I'd like to wish everyone a very happy, colourful & peaceful 2019.

For today's post, I've prepared a Set of Mixed Media ATCs (Artist Trading Cards). I was inspired by nature & all the green hues in the January Moodboard. The theme for January is to "use texture".

Set of Mixed Media ATCs

ATC 1: Smile

ATC 2 : Love 

ATC 3: Hope

Process:

1. Cut thick chipboard into 2.5 by 3.5 inch (atc size) sized rectangles

2. Applied modelling paste onto each atc using a palette knife to create texture

3. Used air dry clay to create mushroom like shapes & then adhered them to the atcs using gel medium

4. Applied black gesso to the atcs to prepare them for coloring

5. Started the coloring process by adding Lindy's sprays

6. To add shine & intense color, used Finnabair's metallic paints in shades of green, brown, red. Kept applying them using the dry brush technique, until I was happy with the blend of colors

7. Next adhered Finnabair's glass glitter, moss, sequins, sentiment tiles and alphas using soft gel medium 

8. In the end, added nuvo drops and ink splatter on the 3 atcs & distressed their edges with black soot distress ink

Song bird - A mixed media art journal spread

Hi everyone,
Sharing with you a mixed media art journal spread that I made for Art and Soul studio's January mood board. Here is the link to Art and soul studio Australia's blog

This month's mood board is so beautiful and magical. I hope you will take part in this month's challenge.

Lets start our art journal spread:

Its my small Dylusions journal. I glued few pieces of washi tape with matte medium. Next I applied modeling paste through a Stencil. I let it dry completely before proceeding to the coloring part.

I colored the pages with Lindy Stamp Gang's Starburst sprays in Tibetan poppy teal, Mad Hatter mint and Drop dead Gorgeous green. I also added a bit of Cocoa Marabu art spray at the edges.
Next I did a bit of background stamping with Archival inks in Paradise teal, Potting soil and Jet black ink.
Assembled and glued my embellishments with gel medium and hot glue.
Added few rub ons and a title.

We've created two mixed media style layouts inspired by the beach vibes, the sand, shells and sun. We've used Kaisercraft Papers, die cut elements, assorted flowers, shells, Prima Marketing Gesso, Texture Paste, Lindy's Sprays and Embossing Powders.

Artist Trading Coins by Dutt Preety

I'd like to share a Set of 12 Artist Trading Coins today. 

I've prepared a lil' pictorial for these. 

Artist Trading Coins are very popular nowadays, these are 2.5 inches in diameter and serve as a variant for ATCs or Artist Trading Cards. These little pieces of art are usually exchanged between artists and crafters from all over the world. It is a lot of fun to make these & once you get started, they can be quite addictive :)

Pictorial:

Step 1: Randomly Applied Dylusions Paints to Strathmore Watercolor paper 

(the messier, the better)

  Step 2: Created ink splatters and a few pops of color using Dylusion Sprays, Lindys Gang Sprays and Distress Paints (again, done very randomly)

 Step 3: Sponged on white gesso through Tim Holtz Mini Stencils to create texture & interest in the background (modelling paste or crackle paste could also be used for a more textured look) 

 Step 4: Punched out twelve 2.5 inch circles & outlined the stenciled patterns with a fine tip black pen

 Step 5: Darkened the edges of the circles with distress ink and drew on double stitched borders around the circles using a white gel pen (you can even add real stitching to the coins for a more textured look)

 Step 6: Used Tim Holtz paper dolls as the focal images. Created the composition on each coin & layered on washi tape, thread, Tim Holtz stickers & die cuts.

Vintage Inspired Mixed Media Layout "Prince" by Dutt Preety

I'm very happy & thankful to be on the Art & Soul Studio blog today. 

This is my first DT project for Art & Soul Studio, so I hope you'll enjoy it! 

I have created a Vintage Inspired Mixed Media Layout- "Prince" along with a pictorial.

Here are some close-up photos of the layout:

Pictorial:

Step 1: Applied clear gesso to a 12 by 12 piece of heavy white cardstock (to prep it for mixed media), then mixed Dark Chocolate Impasto Paint with Modelling Paste to create a dark texture paste, applied it through one of the stencils from Tim Holtz Mini Stencil Set #27. Then added color to the background using various shades of blue & brown sprays by Lindys Gang. 

Step 2: Did background stencilling by sponging on distress inks through a couple of stencils from the Tim Holtz Mini Stencil Set #27

Step 3: To create DIY vintage looking papers (for the photo mats), I used book pages, scrunched them up to create creases, then dyed them with a solution of water mixed with 1 packet of instant coffee & a few drops of distress ink reinkers. Added splashes of more intense color in some spots to create a worn out, old look. Let these air dry. 

Step 4: Did background stamping using archival & distress inks and texture as well as script stamps 

Step 5: Chose the focal element (a vintage photo) from Tim Holtz Found Relatives Cards, punched it out with a circle punch. Collected all the elements for layering, including twine, burlap, corrugated cardboard, DIY vintage papers, cheese cloth, chippies, gems, crochet lace and thread. Deckled & distressed the edges of all the papers & adhered everything down to create a visually pleasing composition. Used Tacky glue to stick the elements & used pieces of cardboard as well as foam tape between some of the layers, to create added dimension

Step 6: In the end, created ink splatter using watered down distress inks, added some quotes using stickers, added a bit of shine to the project using Finnabair's waxes and drew on a few scribbly borders for the sentiments.
