Mermaid for September Moodboard...... by Cindy Porter

Hi everyone, today I have a piece I created to play along with this months Moodboard Challenge titled Mermaid.... (original title right!! LOL)

I fell in love with the colours of this months challenge ....
You can find all the details of the challenge and the prizes on offer here....October Moodboard
Unfortunately, I still have not been able to video with my fractured ankle so again I have a photo step by step...

I began by doing a rough sketch on watercolour paper...

I then began colouring the sea using the Aqua Green Marabu Art Crayon...

Next I coloured the sky using the Turquoise Marabu Art Crayon...

I then added more detail to both the sky and water....

I used the Lavender Marabu Art Crayon to colour the Mermaid Tail....

I also used Lavender to base colour her hair and add some detail to the tail...

I then began adding details using the Plum Marabu Art Crayon...

I used the Flesh Marabu Art Crayon for her skin...

Next I started using Faber Castell Polychromos pencils to add detail...adding Cobolt Turquoise for shading and Mauve Mauve for details in the hair, fins and tail and I used Warm Grey V for the Trident...

I added more water detail using the Aqua Green Marabu Art Crayon...

I added shading to the face and body using the Light Flesh Polychromos Pencil...

then it was time to sketch in the face...

and colour the face details, using Dark Red, Raw Umber, Cinnamon and White Polychromos Pencils...

to add some brighter highlights I used the extra fine White Sharpie..

then the final step was to add some shading using a Stabilo All Pencil and a wet brush...

A final look at completed piece....

I hope you'll be able to join in the challenge this month for your chance to win some fabulous prizes...
hope you enjoyed seeing my process,
till next time
Happy Creating,
xC
