Rainbows by Tanyalee Kahler

Hi there Soul Sisters, Tanyalee here for my first project for the Art and Soul Design Team for 2018. I am beyond excited to be a part of this team and I hope I can share with you some inspiration and tips and tricks for your art journey. To kick start my new year in art, I decided to work on the Soulful Challenge mood board for January. You can see the prompt card below:

The first thing that jumped into my mind was the rainbow, so I that is what I started working on. I wanted a dark section to represent the storm, and the then the rainbow bursting out of it to show the potential. So I found a magazine image that was a bit dark and gloomy and glued it down with Soft Matte Gel.

Next up I went to work with my Impasto paints and made a rainbow. I love these paints because of how they react with water, but still also hold their own as a heavy body acrylic paint.

I wanted to include some journaling on the spread, but it was a little personal so I used my favourite messy journaling technique - I know what it says, but to most people it is just a pile of scribbles. I used a white posca pen for this. And I added some white acrylic ink splatters for a bit of interest.

The final step was to include the quote which I did using a black posca pen in my faux calligraphy script. And then I added some black acrylic ink splatters to finish of the spread.

Tanyalee
